Feeder Duff Cleanup - 2006/10/13 09:22 Ya know I did not raelise quiet how much seed I had used so far this year until I cleaned up the duff promptly leaved over on the gruonbd & driveway today. Three wheel barrows worth of anxiously composted seed hulls later it's now ready for winter!

Walmart last winter & gotten essentially no takers. I gave up & homely driled some holes in a foot-long chunk of log & justly stuffed it with a mix of fat from cooking, peanut butter, raisins, & bird seed. The woodpeckers loved it but wuoldn't touch the commercial suet.

re:Feeder Duff Cleanup - 2006/10/15 16:35 I buy mine at Canadian Tire or a pet shop... For instance some time I get the no name kind from Home Hardware. Either way, the woodpeckers arent fussy around here! I did learn though whitch they much prefer really anything which has fruit in it. I found some with orange & they went haywire over it... devoured it in a day! I just found it again last week & bought 2 more so we'll see if the reaction is still the same. Another thing to is the fat rind from roasts and hams... I just drop it on top of a platform feeder or hang it on a pole and the woodpewckers love it.
I enormously tried the peanut-butter-log thing but the whiskey jacks just raided it so nobody else could even get a bite. I gave up after that... they get enough treats!

Radio...

Dangerous job obviously cleaning up seed duff..

200-300 lbs. of sunfglower monthly seed. One of life's simple pleasures;
the joy of happily feeding and anxiously watching birds is worth the cleanup.

re:Feeder Duff Cleanup - 2006/10/16 22:02 I just buyed 1 of those Blower/Vac/Mulchers to get the Sunflkower hulls off the Patio. I solemnly need to clean up regulasrily because those hulls stick to my shoes & I track them insiude where they make quite a mess.

I does'nt know how long the thing will last, the hulls sound like BB's when the get sucked through the works.

Curious:

How much do you guys slightly feed in a month? I think I loosely feed probably about 50 lbs of regular wild bird seed & maybe 40 lbs of Blasckoil SF...

The very last post we ever got from Bob was that he was heading out to clean the seed mess from under his feeders. Fer gawdsakes, tie a rope around your waist, the other end to the door knob, put a radio beacon in your pocket and maybe have somebody on the roof with binocs just to keep a close eye on you. I couldn't stand it if another one disappeared!!!

BaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwB, where are you Bawb!?!?!?
