A Bat In The Yard - 2006/12/03 02:11 Hi again Group,

After an evening's mostly fihsing a couple of days ago, we gotten home around 9:00 pm, right at dark. As I was standing in the driveway, I looked up & saw this little black thin flying around. I knew it was not a typical bird because it didnt fly the way they do. Didn't take long to realize it was a bat, about 5"across the wings. He hung around the back yard for a bit before hittin the tree line & disappearing. We see lots of bats here in the summer. If you stand uotside right at dark, you are bound to see the little black silhouettes floating by! Natyures best mosquito catcher! Of course

re:A Bat In The Yard - 2006/12/03 13:01 Yep. I suspect that many people who are squeamish about bats would be freaked out to find out just how common they are.
You can do what you said above just about anywhere, including
"suburbia", and see lots of bats. Which means ... during the day some of them are (literally) hanging out in the trees in these people's backyards.
