Good idea - 2007/03/15 17:34
The Vaseline idea is effective with one caveat - It is Petroleum Jelly and petroleum products are toxic to birds and other wildlife. I buy whole cinnamon sticks at the dollar store. You get about 10 in a jar for a dollar. I simmer them just enough to make them pliable and wrap them around the feeder hangars and Shepard's poles that I use to hold them, then I use a cheap paint brush to paint the feeders with the water from softening the sticks. Ants won't cross cinnamon. As for killing them, the avian safe insect killer is an excellent idea for the surrounding areas. I would take down all feeders prior to applying it. JAN
