Disturbing - 2006/12/19 13:22 They're in everything. Do the birds really care if there are billions of them? :?:

Thanks!! - 2006/12/19 21:56 Thanks for the info. I like the vasaline idea the best. I'll do that .

Yes, there are tons of them. Can not exactly see where they're coming from either. If they stay out of the feeders, I'll be happy.

re:How to kill ants? - 2006/12/19 23:06 Hi rseymour,
I had that problem once and I used Avian Insect Liquidator (Vetafarm), just make sure you don't get it the water. After a couple of goes with that we are now free of those little pests.
Cheers Gordon.....

Good idea - 2007/03/15 17:34 The Vaseline idea is effective with one caveat - It is Petroleum Jelly and petroleum products are toxic to birds and other wildlife. I buy whole cinnamon sticks at the dollar store. You get about 10 in a jar for a dollar. I simmer them just enough to make them pliable and wrap them around the feeder hangars and Shepard's poles that I use to hold them, then I use a cheap paint brush to paint the feeders with the water from softening the sticks. Ants won't cross cinnamon. As for killing them, the avian safe insect killer is an excellent idea for the surrounding areas. I would take down all feeders prior to applying it.
