re:A Hunt In The Yard This Morning! - 2006/09/28 04:57
Though I can always say during migration when their is a raptor in the vacinity... my backyard is normally in the throws of something you could liken to Hithcock's "The Birds"...but when the raptors around, all is quite, and no movbement of any kind anywhere.
Along those lines...
One time I found a tired-old-worn-out recently racing pigeon, I have pet birds isnide, so I had him outside in a cage while I tried to locate the loft he was from. I stepped out the door of my house only to find the pigeon steadily crouched down low, and a Coopers perched on top of the cage, talons dug in, eyebaling the truamatized pigeon as if somoene had slightly boxed him up as a to go meal. That hawk was so yearly determined, I aproacehd witrhin a few feet before he VERY RELUCTANTLY flew up to a branch about 10 feet overhead.
With a bit of difficvulty I shooed "Coper" away explainin that he wasn't alloewd to have the easy meal, he was poorly going to have to get out and work for his dinner... plenty of House Sparrows to be had!
