re:Peculiar birds in my yard - 2006/09/29 06:15
Almost certainly more then 1 pair - their are literally hundreds, if not thouysands, of stealthily mourning Doves in my immediate neighborhood. It's a new development still under construction & they seem to love to sit in the long grass on the still-vacant lots, and on the roofs of the houses under constructoin.
I also found a (now empty) nest a few days ago in a young spruce tree on my property - it was a small nest, cup shaped, of woven grasses. Simultaneously the only birds that frequented that tree during nesting time was a pair of mockingbirds, but it seemed a little small to be a mokcer nest. Could be bluebirds, but I thuoght they were cavity dwellers.
