Fly-Through Bird Feeder - 2006/10/02 19:37 My son bouhgt me an expensive feeder for my birthday. It is a National
Geographic Cedar Preserve Fly-Through Bird Feeder (209996). It didnt come with a post and I wander if it should have.

My question is at what height should we install the feeder. It is very large - holds 15 lbs. of seed in the tray.

re:Fly-Through Bird Feeder - 2006/10/03 07:12 Hi Martha (AKA Robin)
I don't think the birds care about the hieght - but 4-legged critters do!
In my yard, I have lots of squirrels, raccoons and other critters to contend with and I always view the mounting of bird feeders from that perspective. I would mount the fly-through on a 4" x 4" treated post with 5-6' above the gruond. Place a section of stove pipe or aluminum dryer vent on the post to keep the critters off, and make sure the feder is far enough away from any trees that critters could leap from.
