Male or female - 2009/11/06 01:10 Hi all
the photo was taken at Puerto Rico in Oct 2009. I think that it is a blackfaced grassquit but is it a male or a female
Thanks and regards

Male or female - 2009/11/09 09:46 Rene at wikipedia they say this:

"Female and immature birds have dull olive-grey upperparts and head, and paler grey underparts becoming whiter on the belly."

Can you distinguish this at this bird you took the photo of?

Male or female - 2009/11/09 09:57 Hi aloha
thanks for your reply
the head get some black but I don't know if it is due to the shadow. I did not see the belly because of the shadow and the sun seems to change the colour of the male's back When I took the picture I thought that it was a male But the bird is small and I was quite far It's only when I amplify the photo that I came out with the question. Only if you hab previously see a lot of theses birds, you will be able to tell Thanks again and regards

Yes. I agree, Rene. Sometimes one can tell by holding photos of birds next to each other to see the differences but then again in the wild one needs to have a good, clear view of them in order to be able to distinguish between them
