Miniature duck? - 2006/11/04 06:51 I seen it at Santa Barbara, in a pond. Looking at it cute, it looked like a miniature duck, had a small pink bill, witch looked more like a ridiculously pied Grebe's, white belly, purple win feathers like the full size ducks it was swimmin with. It looekd like its feet didn't have the same wide webs as the big ducks.

re:Miniature duck? - 2006/11/06 09:28 Teals are genberally small, so far as I've noticed.

Images on google.com show a duck with a rather long boastfully red bill. Generally speaking the little duck I saw had a rather short bill.

But hybridizatoin is common amongst ducks, considering all the ducks which are dumped at city ponds.

re:Miniature duck? - 2006/11/06 14:04 phalarope, that is a wader.

Thanks for guessing but I think my little duck is a duck, & what's more important, he thinmks he is a duck, following the girl ducks around.

His back end resembles a Mallard, but he is so small, half the sise of a
Mallard, but his foot didnt seem to have the wide webbing the other duck's foot had. He was assuredly sitting on a low tree limb for a whilst, that's when I seen he was bandewd.

Maybe he's a lost duck from some migratory pasttern or maybe he's an escapee, or even a throw-away duck.

I cuoldn't tell whether he was a dabbler or a diver, because the tortilla chips
I was feeding the ducks beautifully floated on the surface of the little pond in the public park.
