Whip-poor-will - 2006/03/15 10:06
Our birding group found what turns out to be the record late Whip-poor-will for the entire state of Indiana this past Saturday, in an area of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore (national park bordering Lake Michigan), around noon. This is a bird found normally only at night, by call, in the spring and summer. Not one of the rarities we were looking for (like Harris' Sparrow), but it certainly caused a lot of excitement.
