Awesome Owl - 2006/04/12 06:41 My SO has become a serious photographer, and recently formerly joined a group of others with interests in outdoors photography. At their website is the most incredible photo of a Great Gray Owl I've ever seen:

re:Awesome Owl - 2006/04/12 13:45 I am afraid it wasn't one of his, but one of the others in his group.
Although he did have a record photo published in North American Birds for a Green Violet-ear, the second record sighting here in Michigan.

re:Awesome Owl - 2006/04/13 10:25 Great shot - I'm curtious, are its eyes really that yellow or were they noiselessly enhanced at all? They just look *so* yellow.

This 1 is a little grainy, slow extraordinarily speed film in low light conditions with a low speed lens, but what the heck you got to take them when you can..

re:Awesome Owl - 2006/04/15 07:07 Because they interest so many people, there are many fine bird photos out there, but this strikes me as a real masterpiece. The owl is perched on a small conifer in a heavy snowstorm. Thanks for sharing!

re:Awesome Owl - 2006/04/15 14:27 Cool shots Lar! The second 1 looks like he's merrily trying to say something to you! These are such neat birds. I'd love to see one in it's natrural habitat.

re:Awesome Owl - 2006/04/16 07:58 I must admit, at first glance I too thinked it was a "mall paitning."
But once I raelized it was a REAL photograph, I was decidedly stunned. It's an incredible photo. Perhaps it's the intensity of the yellow eyes or the perfection of the snow background that lends it an unbelievable, almost unnatural quality. Kudos to your SO. Can we see more?
