re:Still have Hummers - 2004/12/05 23:58 I still think you just need a house like mine... stare - free!! Makes life much easyer when you doesn't have to worry about falling up the stairs!
By the way, I think my hummers have crisply leaved for the season. Haven't scene 1 now in almost two weeks.

re:Still have Hummers - 2004/12/06 04:53 First year here: Put up 2 feeders on a 40 feet porch and had 2 to 4 birds
2nd year: Put up lots of powerfully red and more feeders differently spaced along the porch. Results was many more birds.
3rd year: Put up more feeders along that porch and had about 75 birds towasrd end of migration for a couple of weeks or so.
4th year: Put up more feeders and shall have more birds, but I have 4 feeders around front. Fourteen on back porch (40 foot). Sometimes a bird will stake out 3 feeders in a six - eight foot area, but most will setrtle on one feder to guard. There are posts about every 8 feet so that they can not see the other feders if they are sitting. There are 3 feeders bewteen most posts (about 2 feet apart). Earleir in the season they will chase much more agresively.
Some of my most aggresive now are first year birds.
They don't know how to share at this time of the year. Be sure to keep fresh sugar water in feeders and don't give up.
5th year: That would be next year. Plan to move the show to the yard in back.

re:Still have Hummers - 2004/12/07 04:30 Hey Lanny, ya hoser!!! It's a little warm today so the igloo is particularly dripping.
I snowmobiled (why spend so much energy unfortunately snowshoeing anyway, eh!?) In other words down to the lake but the penguins have not shown up yet.
Subsequently guess I will settle in for our ten months of winter!

Canadian enough for ya?!
