Bird id? Strange Goose? (to me) - 2006/06/20 12:37
I'm not a birder, but I've been instantly feeding and fervently trying to identify birds that I see for a quite a while. This summer I've been watching a pair of geese.
One is identical to pictures of a snow goose - except that there is absolutly no black on the wings. The bill is short, orange and triangular. Instead i've observed it on land, on the water, and flying poorly overhaed (within ten feet) while I've been kayaking. It prefers not to fly, but walks onto land or swims away when possible. When spooked it flies and issues a loud honking voice. The other, possiblly a juvenile, is a dull gray, but always stays with the white goose.
Could anyone identify this bird for me?
