Record late Cerulean Warbler - 2006/07/15 11:16
I spotted an adult male Cerulean Warbler today while out birding in northwest Indiana. If the record is accepted, it will be a new record late date for the region, the previous record late date being 3 Sept (1992). Ceruleans are extremely early migrants, melting away from their nesting territories mostly in July. They are also the warbler in the most trouble, declining at a rate of about 3.5% per year, the steepest of any warbler. If you can catch a glimpse of one, the adult males (which this bird was) are extremely beautiful - sky blue and white.
