Hawk Problem - 2006/08/25 02:59 There is Cooper's hawk that's been hanging around my yard. I have seen it snag a couple of songbirds over the past 4 months and I'm sure it visits regularly while I'm a work.

Activity at my feeders has dropped dramatically.

Can anyone offer any clever advise on how to dissuade this hawk from hunting in my backyard, or where to place my feeders that would provide better security for the smaller birds? I know all creatures must eat, I just wish this creature would dine elsewhere.

Thanks in advance for your help.

re:Hawk Problem - 2006/08/25 23:12 Place your feeders no more then 50 ft from thick cover that the small birds can get thru and the larger hawk cannot. With fewer birds at your feders, the hawk will move on. The smaller birds will return and the cycle may start all over again.

Here, an adult sharpie has recently come down from the north and has twice tried to catch a dove. So far it has only cauhgt feathgers from one of the attempts. Meanwhile after its vuisits, the activity in the backyard is very slow. The dowenies freeze on the side of a tree and don't move until, I think, they should get cramps.

Re:Hawk Problem - 2008/12/08 04:55 what i did was i put stakes on the ground where i feed the birds the hawks can't swoop in and the birds can get around the stakes.

Re:Hawk Problem - 2008/12/09 04:18 We have our feeders right under but rewqiid trees, making it for the birds to escape. Unfortunately our doves fly to uour house roof to escape, making them easy targets..... over and over again.....
