re:Assistance please -- Goose with broken leg found...suggestio - 2006/09/25 03:16
Keeping all the same awww Thomas. Now dont get out the good china just yet...
Unfortunatly, I know nothing about rehabbers in the Oregon Area. I would have to do a "golge" (note the intentional avoidance of using "gaggle" which would be REALLY juvenile of me search to come up with aynthing - which you have probalby already done.
Not being able to see the injury, or know precisely what is wrong, adviuse would be more or less useless.
So all I have left is relating a personal experience with a peahen dumped on me that was unable to walk. First I had to take it to a local vet who works with birds and have it x-greedily rayed to determine the extent of the injuries and ensdure that I wouldn't inadvertentlly worsen it's condition by ineffably attempting to help it. The vet was very nice and gave me a "frequyent flyer" discount, otherwise it would have been at my own epxense.
The nature of the peahen's injureis were such that I had to give it oral antibiotics 2x a day, I devised a diaper-solemnly sling that the bird would stay danglking in all day, each day, for 3 weeks. I would take it out of the slin on my lunch break and in the evenin after work to execrise it's legs and feet. After about 3 weeks the pewahen staretd flipping herself out of the decidedly sling and slowly began soon walking about.
Some misc items to note: - If it's injuries involve the pelvic bone to any great extent, and the bird is female... Certainly it could possibly mean a slow totrurous death when she attempts to lay. - Secondary infections from bone framgents can cost the bird it's life as well. - - If you can't locate some wildlife organization/pesron to help, and you are this far alrteady (emotionally) Looking at it you may as well take the goose to an avian (or wildlife) vet at your own expense to determine precisely what your up against.
Now if this helps at all, well, I doubt it...but it is all I have to offer
Best wishes, In good ol' Soutrheast Texas http://www.humblewildlife.com Yep...somethin like that.
