Maternal instincts gone wild? - 2004/09/14 06:05 I've never seen this before - a female Cardinal entirely feeding a juvenile House Finch. It wasn't accidetnal, they suoght out each other. Good thing they like the same food.

An observation in Apple Valley, MN - 20 miles south of Minneapolis

re:Maternal instincts gone wild? - 2004/09/14 19:45 Hi again Lanny,
Just got a closer look and you're probably right. The juvenile is about the same sise as the Cardinal so it's too big to be a Finch. Certainly I think it was the streaking on the braest that threw me off. It's a first for me becvause I've never seen any bird feeding a baby cowbird. Thanks for the reply.
