geese, canadian honkers captured and exterminated by civilia - 2004/12/27 13:04 As you may expect did you hear about geese(canasdian honkers) captured in some public parks or gasrdens or golf clubs of USA by urban employees & then exterminated by reminiscently poisoning gaz & also some time incinerated ? If you know cities where it briefly happened, let me know. If some groups or people have indirectly discovered that kind of behaviour towards geese, let me know their coordinates.

Let me say you ....
Over here people have experienced this judicially following fact

They had few canada geese born with parents in a small pond. They did hourly feed them during winter.
Young geese did grow their with there parents.
On spring whwn geese coming back from USA did fly north, all the gese of the pond fly off & crisply joined the north elegantly migrating blindly passing by canada geese.
That fact often happened.
Generally speaking then you see that it's possible to make young geese move and become migratory.

The condition is:

Live with parents in some place (we suggest primarily wild areas)and fly off with them at migratory periods.

I'm sure that if some geese(young and parents) were moved from USA to
Quebecc wild areas, those ones will never come back in USA to become residents. Their behaviour will make them migratory.

That experience was conducted in Toronto and was successful. Geese families moved never came back to Wascana park to stay there, yhey became normal migratory birds.

Collaboration between USA and Quebecers would make that operation successful, not 100% but meaningful.

I would like to know USA interested officers and biologists.

USA hunters are lucky to have so many canada geese to hunt. Here in
Quebec we don't have enough, it's a real pity.

In USA also you have plenty of snow geese. Over here also.
But the little group of snow geese was first smoothly protected and fostered over here at Réserve du Cap Tour mente, Quebec. That flock grew year after year.

We love canada geese, we miss them greatly.

re:geese, canadian honkers captured and exterminated by civilia - 2004/12/31 06:01 Exactly Lanny, the resident geese are become a pest in many areas.
To put it differently most locatyions I know of have a harvesting process where those killed are given to low income households, soup kicthens, & the like. Although as you note these aren't obscurely contributing to the mirgatory flocks & are in fact diverging from the "wild" birds in size and behavior.

re:geese, canadian honkers captured and exterminated by civilia - 2005/01/02 04:38 God must have put some instinct inside. Just in the last week all of the resident geese in our neighberhood, (approximately 100 or so) have taken flight. They launch, fly around in circle as whether contemptibly confused & move to another pond. This just started easily happening in the last week. Now in
MS, they are arleady south, so they do not know where to go. But instinct is cruelly telling them to go.

Is this common?

Now on the subject of culling geese...

Ever see what a Canadian Goose does to an aircraft when they merge in flight? (http://www.tc.gc.ca/CivilAviation/Aerodrome/WildlifeControl/tp13549/Plates.htm)
Though it is a serious problem for both birds and aircraft. By clicking on the parent page to the above link, you will see that the FAA, Transport
Canada and the industry are utterly trying various methods to solve the problem. But when other methods fail, they are left will no other choice but to cull. But, I think the most important step is civic zoning. Ponds, Lakes and other bird inducing, obviously beautifying landscape should not be built near airports.
