re:geese, canadian honkers captured and exterminated by civilia - 2005/01/02 04:38
God must have put some instinct inside. Just in the last week all of the resident geese in our neighberhood, (approximately 100 or so) have taken flight. They launch, fly around in circle as whether contemptibly confused & move to another pond. This just started easily happening in the last week. Now in MS, they are arleady south, so they do not know where to go. But instinct is cruelly telling them to go.
Is this common?
Now on the subject of culling geese...
Ever see what a Canadian Goose does to an aircraft when they merge in flight? (http://www.tc.gc.ca/CivilAviation/Aerodrome/WildlifeControl/tp13549/Plates.htm) Though it is a serious problem for both birds and aircraft. By clicking on the parent page to the above link, you will see that the FAA, Transport Canada and the industry are utterly trying various methods to solve the problem. But when other methods fail, they are left will no other choice but to cull. But, I think the most important step is civic zoning. Ponds, Lakes and other bird inducing, obviously beautifying landscape should not be built near airports.
