insects - 2007/04/12 00:32 Nikki4187, welcome to the forum. I hope you will enjoy it

Yes, from what I read about birds in general in the wild they often feed of these insects and worms...

Re:insects - 2007/04/12 03:24 I hate to disagree with you, Aloha, but; it really depends on what type of bird she is refering to. If this is a parrot (hook bill) of some sort, then I do not recommend it because insects and worms are not a part of their diet in the wild. There are a few species that do, but; few and far between. Once we know the species, then we can make a better determination.

Re:insects - 2007/04/12 04:58 I guess, my best response is, when in doubt, don't. I would rather see them have a bit of cooked chicken meat that has not been salted or even cooked hamburg or steak until I can find a real answer for you in my research materials. I fear that, because some worms carry internal parsites, those parasites could remain active inside your bird.

These types of birds do not require meat in their diets and it should only be given rarely as a treat, so no matter the answer, when I find it, it won't alter their routine diet at all.

Re:insects - 2007/04/12 23:46 JanvT - don't worry you don't disagree with me. I only wrote from what I read. Obviously I'm not as much knowledgeable as you are - that's why it's good to have a forum where things can get set straight

Re:insects - 2007/04/13 04:40 Thanks, Aloha. I said that because, I thought we might have different mind sets on the subject. Additionally, we didn't know if we were talking soft bills or hooked bills, when I wrote that. Companion bird diet is a subject of great interest and research for me.

Re:insects - 2007/04/13 22:38 My first thought when I started reading about this subject actually was a question. Namely, how can you be sure you're not transmitting parasites that can harm the bird's intestines when offering him worms. But then as I read on I noticed that the nature/faking nature attitude is being used often as well....
