scaredy bird - 2007/04/21 02:57 Everytime I put new toys in my grey's cage he freaks out. He tries to fly around and get out of the cage, and i am afraid he could break a blood feather in the process. how can i make the transition to new toys smoother or calm him down? he plays with them after a few days but i am afraid he will hurt himself trying to get away from them in his cage until he gets used to them.

scaredy bird - 2007/04/21 17:15 If your bird plays outside the cage, either on a play stand or on top of his house, introduce new toys there. If not, then just start by laying the toys near his cage for a day or two, where he can see them. Pick them up and pretend to play with them yourself when playing with him. Next step - hang them on the outside of the cage for a while and pretend to play with them, then introduce them to the cage. Usually, Greys aren't as skittish of new stuff as smaller birds like Quakers, but; that is how we introduce new things to them and it should work with your grey. Hope this helps. Let us know.
