Pinning - 2007/08/30 07:57 Hi,
I am new to ringnecks. I am wondering if someone might tell me why my ringneck pins up at me when I am near his cage? He pins and than looks like he is blindly attacking me?? I am his
favorite person.. He only does this in his cage and only to me.
He also starts into his talking rutine at this time.
Thanks
Tammy

Pinning - 2007/08/30 11:07 Hi Tammy welcome to the forum

Pinning is usually done when they are really excited and sometimes when they're angry of afraid.

It is really hard to know why he's doing this to you. It might well be part of a ritual to get his talking session started...

Re:Pinning - 2007/08/30 19:39 Thanks,
So much for the info.
I don't know a lot about them yet. I rescued this poor bird from a farmer who found him out in the garden. After a month or more of the farmer looking for his owner, the family replied to an ad that I had wanting to adopt. So if anyone has any other information they would like to share please do. I would love to find out his approximate age. I don't believe we have an avian vets in Iowa ;-(

Blessings,

Re:Pinning - 2007/08/31 08:01 The aging is really hard to determine. An adult ringneck will measure about 16 inches in length if you include the tail feathers. Apart from that it's hard to tell how old he is. Do you mean there is not even one aviary vet in the whole state of Iowa? Wow

You can tell if it's a male or female bird though. Males have got a deep red beak and three bands of colors around their neck. They also have black facial markings. Femals lack those bands however some have some darkening around their necks

Also they're very temperamentful and get bored quickly. Therefore they need a lot of attention
