I feel sorry for them. I wish owners would keep them indoors....

Cat!!!!! - 2008/10/16 14:31 Absolutely. Especially the strays, who's owners would rather they be "free" at the expense of the cat's health. Our vet says it the worst thing for a cat's health. With pet ownership, comes or should come certain responsibilities.

Cat!!!!! - 2008/10/17 19:32 Oh... I sort of really enjoy the freedom of the cats that stroll around in the streets here. They seem so much more 'connected' with their instincts.

Cat!!!!! - 2008/10/17 20:01 here they are being 'helped' (sterilized) and checked. At least, most of the street cats. You can see so because they miss a tiny little piece of one ear, it means they have been at the vets

Cat!!!!! - 2008/10/17 22:12 They try to do that here too. Sadly 80% of the "adopted" ones are promptly back on the streets. Totally irresponsible. Animal cruelty comes in far too many forms. Every so often I try to relate that in BirdBreath.

Cat!!!!! - 2008/10/18 17:14 Street animals can not easily adopt to homely life. Animal cruelty of course should be addressed with the appropriate means appearing in law: fines and imprisonment. But for a cat to roam the streets - I honestly don't think it's cruelty.

Cat!!!!! - 2008/10/20 17:39 Yeah, I always liked that term "fixed" - like: duh that's not what the cat himself would say if he could speak, I suppose

Cat!!!!! - 2008/10/25 16:08 The poor thing has been there two more times this week. It was even sniffing the seed dish. It's not only very thirsty, but looks like hungry as well.

This weekend, I'll probably put out the trap and call animal control.......

Cat!!!!! - 2008/10/26 16:34 According to friends who adopted two cats, most of the animals are adopted. Cats are spayed beforehand. Some are put to sleep, especially old and sickly ones.

Also sadly, 80% of the adopted cats are allowed back on the street. Lately though area units are slowly beginning to require that adoptees sign paperwork requiring the cat be indoors.

Cat!!!!! - 2008/10/30 20:23 Unfortunately no. But they are slowly working on it - way too slowly.

Most animal control agencies are run by local governments and presently there are no overall standards.....
