Thaw - 2009/01/25 11:14 well, it used to get 'cold' (not below minus 5-7degr. C.) already around the middle of December usually. now, the last 2 years I noticed this isn't happening until the end of January (that is... IF it will get cold at the end of this month. that's the big question). We have practically a drought - it is measured by the amount of rain collected in the Lake of Galilea - and at present it is an alarming depth below the critical water level.

Thaw - 2009/01/25 16:03 Sounds like you are having it a bad as we are. Is the Lake of Galilea your water supply?

Here too we're at less than normal (for the third year in a row). We're around 5" and normally get 14.8". Our reservoirs (our water supply) are around 25% full....

Thaw - 2009/01/26 17:13 There is another water reservoir I believe (not quite sure yet how it's called, but could look it up if you're interested) but the criterion is the Lake of Galilea.

I see you're in the same position as we are I hope something will happen soon. Water isn't talked about that much but I think it's the basics in many a problems resulting from lack of it...

Thaw - 2009/01/27 01:23 Basics. You have that right. Haves and have nots. International and national. Here domestically, Northern California has all the water and sells it to southern California. In these dry times all kinds of acrimony is surfacing.

Is the Lake of Galilea all your's or do you have to share it?

Thaw - 2009/01/27 18:41 The Lake of Galilea is all "ours", in the meantime. There are international agreements about waters... resources, streams, reflux, sharing... the works...

Today another day of blissful joy: lovely weather... but

yet another nail in the coffin of natural disaster and, (although I hope I am wrong) yet another war...

Thaw - 2009/01/28 01:16 I hear you. Here we have all the water. We ration it because of the extended drought.

On the other hand, we sell our water to (the ever growing) southern California and adjoining Nevada and Arizona, who practice NO water rationing.

Makes no sense.....

Who do you have agreements with?

Thaw - 2009/01/28 14:47 Well, no direct agreements I believe, only with Jordan. The rest is indirect and concerns Lebanon and the Palestinian Authority. Perhaps even Syria but I am not sure of that.

Thaw - 2009/01/29 02:38 Who "owns" the Lake of Galilea?

If you do, isn't that a great "incentive" for peace?

Thaw - 2009/01/29 20:21 It's Israeli. But dependent on the rivers ending up in it and those run through 'enemy states'. Thus the importance of international law.

Thaw - 2009/01/31 20:01 Well, I'm not quite sure about that. I do know that water is "exported" to Jordan but from where that water is coming I don't really know...
