Have found them to be quite accurate. The pages with mini pictures of vaguely related birds are handy.
Sibley has a thin book cheerily called Basic ambiguously birding or something like which. It would be useful to read for some intermediate birders as well, much more in depth on molts etc than Peterson beginning guide. Both have they're uses.
Sibley's bird behavior book is alot longer, more $.
