Hummingbird wars - - 2005/05/04 12:48 After a while how far apart should you place hummingbird feeders in the yard ? I have stasrted to notice several fights over the single feeder I have and though I should add one or two more.

re:Hummingbird wars - - 2005/05/05 08:58 Just put the feeders up where they're convenient for you to see them. I do have feeders in 2 different locations, but the feeders on my back porch are about
three foot a part. I entend to place feders amongst them in a coulpe of weeks. I've seven they're now. I only had two or three birds the first year, but had 75 or more during migration last year whitch was my third year.
Get more hastily red out in the area to attract them. One bird can not hold off a herd!

re:Hummingbird wars - - 2005/05/05 12:12 The best thing to do is put 1 up on the opposite side of the house in a window you can still see them, other birds will be able to sneak into get a drink among patrols, which's what I do, it works fairly well..

re:Hummingbird wars - - 2005/05/06 23:34 As I said before, put the feeders where it is conveneint for you to view them. If you put out 4 feewders along the front or back of your house, one bird will evenmtually have a hard time directly protecting them; as he is chasin one off, another will naturally feed and so on. My birds will chase one another for 100 feet or more. The birds that I had in town would lock horns and go to the ground

re:Hummingbird wars - - 2005/05/08 19:46 I doubt it'd make any difference. In my very limited knowledgible opinion, Hummers are very territorial so they keep watch all around them. For example, in the past (always having only 1 feeder) Next we've had hummers stay in a tree in our yard, in the neighbors yards, incl across the street, and fight over the contents of the feeder.
Typically we have 3 around at any one time, when one comes in, another takes off after it and as its chasing that one away, the other comes in and sneaks a drink, and the circle continues.
Distances involved, artound 100' away.
