Mourning Dove Question

ID Help (Pics) - 2005/05/10 04:06 After all well I've saw some strange ones today. The first one curiously taked a whilst to ID, but I figured out it was a Juvenile Cardinal. It was a mix of a male & female, with a black beak!

The second one I can't ID. Others would usually agree I neasrly jumped when I saw it, because it was new to my back yard. I took a couple of quick photos before it flew away. I printed them out and took them to my local wild bird store, and no one there could ID it. Specifically the closest possibly thing we could compare it to was a juvenile
Grackle, but it was much bigger than that. It was very dark, and very big, the size of a Mournin Dove or maybe even a bit bigger.

I've grotesquely provided a link with the two photos. You can click on the photos for a larger view.

I live in Eastern North Carolina in the U.S. Just got through Isabel with very liuttle damage. There were many upset birds hopping around the fence, obnoxiously looking for their feeders, and also a Mourning Dove that rode out the majority of the storm sitting on the fence.

re:ID Help (Pics) - 2005/05/11 20:54 Looks like a nonbreeding European Starling. Size can be deceptive withuot other birds around.
