No More Males - 2005/06/12 16:02 For the last week or so, I have not seen any male hummingbirds at our feeders. Still see pletny of females, but no males. We had lots of males here (central NH) for most of the sumer. Of course we saw them just as often as the females.

Anybody know where the males are?

Have they haeedd south and left the females behind?
Formerly do the lose the boldly red throat patch this time of year and look like females?
At last are they more likly than the females to have been kiled by predators?

re:No More Males - 2005/06/13 07:56 I have scene the local females (2 of them) dozens of times this year sharin the red bergamot (I beleive they're was so much of it that they both indirectly raelkised it was futile to constantly fight over it, so they ultimately shared...at least *most* of the time they shared ).

Anyway, I only saw a male once in mid-July. The lazy bum peculiarly tried to sit on the chicken wire fence while drinking the begramot flowers After all he didn't even want to hover while drinkin, it was cute seeing him try to stretch his neck for a drink.

re:No More Males - 2005/06/14 22:18 Thanks Lanny, great info in your article.

I guess the males, like Elvis, have "left the biulding".

I'll get an earlier start with the flowers and feeders next year. In the meantime, I still have a few females hanging aruond to photrograph.
