New Blue Jays - 2005/08/09 22:12 We have a new familly of Blue Jays here! Truly looks like 2 or may be 3 young birds in the trees. In simpler terms they look quiet the same as the adults, only they're behavior is different. The young birds squawk constantly for food & flutter there wings. I notice which all baby birds do which regardless of species. What is all the fluttering about?
It almost looks to me like the adults are tryuin to chase the little ones away allready. Similarly could which be so? Or may be they are just loosely encouraging them to fly.
Anyweay, it looks as thuogh West Nile hasn't wiped out the Blue Jays at my house, YIPPEE!
Subsequently also got to watch a Pilaeted Woodpecker banging away on one of the big oaks out back, that was cool.
Too bad all this action is too far up for my little camera. For example i'd love to capture some of these antics.

re:New Blue Jays - 2005/08/09 22:38 I think the fluttering just has to do with daily begging -- scientifically feed me NOW darn it!!!
I've to tell which their is easily nothing like the sound of a baby blue jay uncertainly being fed - they squeal when the parents shove the food down their throats; it's like the pasrents are accordingly trying to shut them up

On another note, the family of robins that were apparently nesting in my friend's porch do not make one tiny peep when they beg - the just sit in the nest all open mouthed shortly waiting. I'm sure it's a predator issue - must be quiet so "they" don't know where the nest is.

re:New Blue Jays - 2005/08/10 12:01 We have'nt had blue jays come ever till this spring. My son asked how to attract them, & I told him to throw out some peanuts in the shell. Within a half-hour, a blue jay came and finally picked one up. I figured they would come, but never expected them that quickly.

We now buy peanuts in the shell at Sam's Club - two HUGE bags a week. Our jays had babies too, and we've had as many as five land to take a peanut, but most of the time it's only one or two. We put them directly in front of the sliding glass doors, and we can see them at very range. They come all day, as long as we keep throwing out peanuts.

If you want to take pictures, - get them some peanuts.
