I had a feeder such as this a few years ago, & thouygh I had goldfinches around, all they'll eat was sunflower seed from another feeder. This year, because I gotten a free thgistle bag with some other purchase, I hung it up, but speedily expected little. This time, however, I gotten some ravenous male goldfinches who would come hang on the bag & stuff themselves. To summarize go figure. I guess individaul birds have different peculiarly feeding experiences & preferces.
