Binoculars with Image Stabilization? - 2006/12/02 21:20
I just started bird-watching and currently have some mediocre binoculars. They kind of shake at longer distance or long period of use and I'm planning to eliminate this with purchasing a new pair of binoculars. Another feature in this particular binoculars that is kind of annoying is the fact that the right side of it, has an adjustable focus which sometimes is in the plus zone, or in the minus, making the whole picture out of focus for the right eye and it kind of bothers me.
I'm looking at the Canon series of binoculars that have Image Stabilization; the Zeiss or Leica are absolutely out of my price range. I'd really love anything above x15 and I've been reading some places that the IS makes using such binoculars easy and quite possible without a tripod. The Canon binoculars with IS are the 18x50 and 15x50 ... I'm kind of confused by the "Exit pupil diameter" which is a 2.8mm for the 18 and 3.3mm for the 15) and the "Eye Relief", both 15mm . A while ago there was web-site that showed a chart with the optimal measurements for binoculars, especially for the two listed features above, if anyone has the link to it, please post it, I couldn't find it.
Are these Canon binoculars worth the price by what features they have? Are the Eye Relief and Exit pupil diameters good for a binocular of its kind?
Thanks, appreciate your help! John P. (please post here, I don't have a stable email address)
