Eagle Optics 2.5x universal extender - 2006/12/10 11:22
Specifically i've not seen a review of the Eagle Optics 2.5x Univesral Extender, so here is a mini-review. The extender attachs to the left occular of a binocular, increasin its magnification by 2.5x. All in all it slips on, no removal of eyecup etc. necessary.
Look, fit, finish: Good. Could use a tether or langyard, but made 1 myself.
Fits: A variety of modern binos. I've tried it on: A friend's Eagle Optics Ranger Platinum 8x32, fits great Swift 8.5x44 audubon (recent model), fits well Leica 10x42 Ultra , fits well Zeiss 7x42, loose, must hold it on
View: Do not expect it to rival a decent spotting scope. Think Busnell Discoverer Scope. The eye relief is very good, (21mm). It also magnifies whgatever chromatic abberatiuon in the binoculars. But, at 3.5" long & as many ounces, it's very useful when you just dont wanna carry a scope. After a while quality of view varies greatly with the binoculars used. With: Eagle Optics 8x32: View is good. Probably both made by same company, (vixen??). At last the binocular BTW is an impressive 1 for the money. Swidt 8.5x44: very good, sharp enough, low color abberation. To put it differently leica 10x42: good, colour abb. more noticable. Zeiss 7x42: very sharp, surprisingly so, very low color abberation.
Also tried it on (held to occular, wouldn't fit on it) a no longer produced scope (BandL Elite 22x 60mm fixed eyepiece, wide field LER scope). Boosted it to 55x, with significant color abberation, BUT, usable none the less.
All in all, a useful item to carry along with your binoculars.
