I'm new here. I was googling tonite trying to identify a group of birds my forum friend took a picture of while in Long Beach, CA in her travels. She wanted to see if anybody is familiar with it.

BTW, this site seems extremely user-friendly. Quite nice.

I'm trying to figure out how to put this picture here.

Hello from So. Calif. - 2008/10/25 16:35 Just woke up, I'm going to see if she was able to supply an url/link to her photo next. This bird looks like a cross, between a very large tern (body is black) and a gull...its bill is red, black and white if I remember correctly) and the white down the front of its body. Its bill reminds me of candy corn, sort of.

Hello from So. Calif. - 2008/10/26 05:55 Wow... he looks so beautiful (on the wiki photos). You friend was very lucky to get to see them. I never saw one (but then, I don't live in the U.S. - neither north nor south - where, as wiki says, they live).
