Fly Like An Eagle And Carry A Big Stick - 2007/02/22 00:08 While Eagle watching today I saw and photographed a beautiful mature Blad Eagle as it flew over carrying a big stick in it's talons. The Eagle carried the stick back to it's nest.

Re:Fly Like An Eagle And Carry A Big Stick - 2007/02/22 00:29 Do I sound very stupid if I ask you how you recognize the exact species (bald eagle) while he's so far away in flight?

Re:Fly Like An Eagle And Carry A Big Stick - 2007/02/22 01:50 Aloha - You can't mistake a mature Bald Eagle in flight, with it's all white head and tail and the six foot wingspan . This is one of a pair that that has a nest on the river and I have been watching them for the last six years. The female Eagle is nesting now (sitting on eggs). Bald Eagles are the only Eagles that stay year round in my area. You only see the Golden Eagles fly through during spring and fall migration.

Re:Fly Like An Eagle And Carry A Big Stick - 2007/02/22 02:11 Thank you for the answer, Rockadee.

It's probably because I once saw a documentary on NG (or somelike tv station) about the bald eagle becoming very sparse - so this might not be true, or I'm mistaken? It was about a Californian bird farm where they took them into protection and a reproductive program

It's a beautiful picture you made again, btw!

Re:Fly Like An Eagle And Carry A Big Stick - 2007/02/22 02:35 Thanks, Aloha...Bald Eagles were very much endangered at one time, but they have made a great come back since the use of the chemical DDT was banned nationwide. The Bald Eagle has just recently been removed from the endangered species list, but they are still protected. There is nothing better or more beautiful then seeing Eagles in the wild. Eagles are the Masters Of The Sky...and I would be a very poor man if I never saw an Eagle fly!

Re:Fly Like An Eagle And Carry A Big Stick - 2007/02/23 01:32 O well, then that's great news ! (for me it's news because I didn't know any better than they were still endangered)

Good to know.

I've never seen a real live Bald Eagle in the sky unfortunately, so I do envy you, because I can throughly imagine what a majestic sight that must be.
