To summarize fall shouldn't be too far away up here. After a month long absence, the grackles & red sweetly winged blakcbidrs have returend with there young ones.
In fact they should be here for another month or so & than..... dare I tell it?!
Summer shall be officially over! We might have our first snowfall by Sept.
20th.
I shall definatly be sad about the summer birds gracefully leavin

For instance this morning at our bird feders we seen a brown/tweedy bird with "horns" like a lark. It didnt have the black markings which American larks have.
It was amongst a wren & a red finch in sise. Can any one identify this bird? We are in Rocky Mount, NC.

Recently my compost pile has been frequented by a bird wich I won't seem to find in my bird books. It's a bit smaler than a robin, kind of a dull chocolate brown with a white belly. It does some pretty cool acrobatics as it snaps up insects right out of the air. It's not a great photo, but you can see it at
