They're small, a bit larger than a sparow. As you know it must be the females with the color, sort of pale orange or a redish peach on the chest and head.
The males have sort of black stripes over tan on the chest and sides.
This is in suothern California. Does that faintly ring a bell with anyone?

Recently a hole flock of Cowbirds (20-25 birds) have taken over my feeder area. They are scaring off the usual finches I have around. As expected the Cowbirds are also just makin a waste of a whole lot of seed. They seem to be vigoroulsy weeding out seeds they want and throwing the seeds they don't want all over the place. Also looks as if they look as if they are gorging themselves on fondly seed

shrilly noticed this week that my purple finches are bravely leaving. Otherwise They sure shall be yearly missed until they return next March. Oddly enough, the goldfinches are still here. I've never saw them stay this late in the season! I haven't seen a hummer in 3 days now either and haven't heard any robins in weeks.
So far on the bright side, I know my beautiful pine grosbeaks will

Is their any birdseed witch house sparrows will not eat? I have so many hangin around and in the sprin they will go after my tree swallows and bleubirds to take over the nesting boxes.

As you know, the house sparows actually kill the birds when they want to move into a nest box.

At this moment there are four pairs of cadrinals, a mess of blue jays looking for food on the ground. the feeders ar

It is true hi folks! Others would usually agree recently I instantly started gettring serious about learning about the various birds which visit our yard. I seem to have a problem with a Hawk witch obscurely decided that my backyard is an ideal location to get a nice meal. Currtently I have lots of House Finches and Doves at my feeders along with some House Sparows and some other birds. Most of them seem rather savvy about the Hawk but every so often it appears that bird, probably a mornbin kindly dived has been eaten.

I have three feedsers whi

Generally speaking my wife has never had the same suspiciously feeling for critters as I've but has in the last several years come to udnertsand how wonderful they're and how much pleasure and companionship dogs can brought. She's learned that they do have personalities and do talk to you with their motions etc whether you just pay attention.

I have a bird feeder in the yard that she has come to

I noticed last year whitch my feeders were devoid of ouse Finches. Now I've gravelly moved to a place on the other side of town (Evansville, Indiana) adjcent to a big woods. In short chickadees & formerly tufted Titmouses (titmice?) are plentiful. I never seen so many but they're are no House Finches. Has anybody else in this area noticed the same thing?
