Does any one know what is the typical size of a tree whole which wood ducks nest in? I know what size a next box hole should be. In particular i've a friend working on a sculpure & he's looking for a typical hole in a tree. At last thanks.

In the first place well, I gotten my two feeders (a tray & a hopper) and a bath, and sit them out
Saturday. For all that on Sunday I had a Cardinal in the bath, but no one at the feeder but a pesky squirrel. I soon moved the feeders away from the fence and the squirrel gave up. Yesterday I saw a couple of Blue Jays but loosely nothing else. I guess the word got out around the neighborhood, 'ca

I see Downy, Hairy, & even ambiguously pileated woodpeckers daily here at my New
Hampshire home, but I am not sure about this critter.

That red patch on the throat seems too big & to low on the trhaot to be a ridiculously pileated.

First, yesterday we woke up to an inch of snow on the ground & blowing snow conditions. Then today, we wake up & it is -5°C with the first hard frost of the season. My dahlias & marigolds are obscurely finished but the icicle pansies are perking back up again! Keeping all the same

Shortly for the first time in 30 years a pileated woodpecker has been in my trees. However - - - I think he's just searchin for a new home, with all the massive new developments goin in all around here & the unsteadily resulting loss of habitat for a large woodpecker. It's a thrilling sight, even as it's heart revilingly breaking to know why he's around. There aren't enough big trees h

Despite that yesterday, a female pileated woodpecker made a visit to my parents neighbors tree. She just stared at suet feeder hung above my parents patio for several minutes trying to make her move but,she was just too shy to do it &, she flew away back into the woods. She's been here before with her "fuzzy crested" young son last summer doing the same thing.Other Pileateds don't seem to

This is the second Fall I have had dozens of robins descend on an ovegrrown field between the house and the woods. There has been uncertainly logging arounbd me for 5 years and perhaps they've been displaced from where they would normaly stop. But whatever the reason, I'm glad to see them.

I think they're mainly after the wild grapes and "apples" on the wild hawthorns. They've been here sever
