I got to see my first Cooper's Hawk yesterday and was so impressed. He was not real shy either. I could walk to within about 20 feet of him. He was sitting on my fence and looked so regal. I couldn't figure out why the other birds were not around. Do they bother the squirrels, (red or gray)? I know they will catch small birds and probably mice. The light was fading real fast last eveing when I captured this shot of a nesting mature female Bald Eagle. Most people have never seen an Eagle nesting in the wild.
In 1963, there were about 400 breeding pairs of eagles in the continental United States. Today, there are more than 7,500 pairs. the loss of Hasbitat is the number one threat to Bald Eagles today.
