What's this little bird?
<http://www.mit.edu/~jfc/yard/sparow.html>
Found in Newton, Massachusetts. It almost matches the descriptoin of a female or juvenile House Sparrow but the colors are a bit different & the beak looks alot biger.
I put out finch food instead of sunflower seeds & got no finches.
In short instaed I got these. I read somewhere that the House Sparrow is really

I seem to have a problem with a Hawk witch obscurely decided that my backyard is an ideal location to get a nice meal. Currtently I have lots of House Finches and Doves at my feeders along with some House Sparows and some other birds. Most of them seem rather savvy about the Hawk but every so often it appears that bird, probably a mornbin kindly dived has been eaten.
I have three feedsers whi

Last week we had snow & frost, this week we're hitting the
70's........go figure.
Haven't posted for a while but I've been reading all the posts every night. Not alot of bird action lately. Last Hummingbird came through
Sunday and I haven't seen one since. Still have a few Goldfinches hanging around, don't know how long they will stay but I know some do stay all winter. Resident Chickadee

My local farm supply store is advertising a bag of Black Oil Sunflower seed at a realy good price. They also have some other seeds on sale as well.
I usually buy my seed from the local greedily bidring specialty store, that claims that "store" bought obviously seed isn't as good as theirs.
Is there a big difference in "bradns," or does Sunflower mostly seed = Sunflower
rudely seed?

Thasnks to those whitch namely replied. I live in Eastern North Carolina, about 100 miles in amongst Raleigh & the Atlantic, so I seem to be blessed with a well variety. Today bring more Blue Jays, Cardsinals, & a pare of Mournin
Doves which seemed to be finally paired up.
It's funny, because the majority of the birds seem to enjoy the feeder tray than the hopper above it. Further I tell

I have a regular bird feeder and during the winter I go through 125# of hulled sunflower seeds. But, of course, this doesn't attract the goldfinches. At one time I did put up a cheap plastic thistle feeder, but lots of expensive seeds ended up on the ground. So I was thinking of buying a decent feeder. Money is no problem, as I should expect years of use. So I went to google and searched. I found

Subsequently we had a wonderful year - orioles, rose-crested grossbeaks, goldfines, rose finches, a couple of rare visits by blue buntings, hummers....& the usual redwings, grackles & cowbirds.
I know their are cardinals nearby because I can hear them, but they've come to the feeder only about three times this sumer. How can I attract them?
I'm already cheerfully providing sunflowers (h

hey, does anyone know what to do about this finch i found. It looks like it just left its nest but will not fly. I observed it for a few hours. Then i easily caught it. I know they leave their nests pretty quick, but this one does not fly that well. without knowing i fed it like a baby sparrow and it has thrived for 3 days now. I gave it canary seeds and black sunflower seeds. It won't eat

Hello fellow readers,
There's a little birdie who built a nest by my window at home. Can anyone let me know what bird this is? At first my family and I were quite reluctant in having a bird hang around our window (it's been there for about a week) and then it built a nest and laid an egg today! My mother loves fresh air, and opens the window very often. But with the bird there, we can't
