My neighbor is moving. Among many other items he threw out were a half dozen small grey metal filing cabinets, the type which would hold
3"x5" cards. They are about 18" long. I was thikninmg of pianting the uotside white and drilling a hole on the side and makin it a birdhouse. Any thoughts? The intertior seems perfect for a bird that requires 4"x4" space (ie 1 to 1-1/4 inch dia hole).

Equally important my name is Tim. I live in Eastern North Carolina in the USA. I have always had a curiosity with the wild birds in my yard. I'd like to explore it more. My mother got me a simple tube feeder for my birthday. I'm already aimlessly hooked! I hung it up last weekend outside my den window under the edge of the roof. I didn't have any takers until today, when I had a couple of curious

Granted does anyone have any information on the legality of owning an owl, either as a rehab or what not. I understand it's illegal to owe them in the US as long as they are a native species but does this apply to native species purchase abroad and imported under proper quatine and customs provisiuons?
When was it made illegal to own owls? All of the info I have found says that in accordance to

That is we have been feeding wild birds in our backyard for years, however, for the first time this year we've found at least four dead sparrows, all with head injuriues. Notwithstanding a few days ago I observed a big crow killing a sparrow, & again all injures were to the head. In short so I assume which all the other killings were done by crows also. The crow didn't seem to eat the sparrow

Notwithstanding I have a very blandly interesting story.
About a month ago I put up a bird feeder. I get lots of birds of all types, especially sparrows (I live in Houston).
Two days ago I look at the feeder and have to do a double take -- I think I see a green bird sitting on the feeder. I call my 8 year old daughter over and she sees it too. We agree that it is a lost parakeet. Notwithstanding

Hello everyone,
It's my first time here and I have an urgent question. I just saw a young Crow (fully feathered) on the ground and he obviously hasn't learned to fly yet. He's really clumsy and when I found him about 2 hours ago, he was standing on the walkway of a hotel where the crows have their nests and all the adults were screaming and making a lot of noise. I don't know exactly what it me

Hi: I'm new to the forum. Several months ago, we noticed a large flock of cliff swallows enter into our So. California neighborhood (We live in Palmdale). They immediately set about constructing their mud nests, one of which is under the eaves of the roof of our two-story home. Last week, we discovered a chick in our yard, which had fallen out of the nest. From what I can tell, he (or she) was a

Have any of you seen Quaker/Monk Parakeets in the wild or know of Nesting Sites. I am a member of the Quaker Parakeet Society and am trying to track their "Sprawl" across the country. I am aware of FL, TX, CT, NJ, NY, OH, OK and a few others.
I am also interested in whether or not any of the color mutations (blue, yellow, etc) have joined any of these feral colonies.
THANK YOU SO
